Growing an avocado plant is just a matter of coaxing its pit to root and sprout. It won’t bear fruit, but you’ll have a cute little new houseplant for free.

Save your avocado pit after eating. Wash and peel the pit.

Place the pit in a damp paper towel and ziploc bag or directly in water for a few weeks until the pit has split and roots have sprouted.

Place the pit in the sun and watch it grow. When it reaches 6 inches tall and the roots are long, plant in soil.
