081908file-03.jpgWe love the streamlined look over here at Apartment Therapy. So when we found an even better way to keep our files in line we thought we'd share the neat idea with you. Check out why straight-line filing is the best way to keep your files in order after the jump.

  • Smead says it best, "Straight-line filing helps you file and find files faster and easier. This Filing method is based on the simple fact that your eyes scan information much faster when moving in a straight line versus looking back and forth. If you had to look back and forth, finding the name would be more difficult and time consuming."
  • When we use the straight-line filing system, we don't ever have to change the tab order once a new file is incorporated. With staggered filing, we would have to change every tab in order for the new file to be in order. Straight-line filing is much easier. When a new file is added the tab goes on the left, center, or middle of the file--whichever we choose.
  • Finally, when our files are on display in a file box or tucked away in the filing cabinet the sleek look of the straight-lined files will keep the streamlined look we love.
