Style Lessons from Today’s Small Cool Entries (& Don’t Forget to Enter & Vote!)

Every home has something to teach and each small home in the Small Cool contest holds lessons and tricks for living well while living small. Below is some wisdom from Sunday’s entries including a strategy for a sloped ceiling, experimenting with color, and using mirrors to maximum effect.

Sarah’s fortunate to have ample windows in her living room, and adding a mirror over her sofa (a window-style mirror at that) gives the appearance of another window and reflects all that beautiful natural light around the room — win-win.

Rooms with sloped ceilings can be tricky to make work and we love how Cameo chose a large, corner sectional for this space which works with, not against, the ceilings to make the area feel like a cozy hideout.

Coffee tables are certainly functional, but omitting them makes a lot of sense for some living room spaces, especially if it disrupts the flow in a pass-through room.

Many people choose to use white or off-white paint for the walls of a small home to enhance brightness and create a sense of a larger, airier space. Sadie’s home mostly adheres to that, but she went with a bold green color in her kitchen. If you’re a color lover in a small home, try painting one of your smallest rooms, like the kitchen or bathroom, for just a does of that color you crave.

This window nook used to be a tiny bathroom, but Ludivine tore it out and created this cozy window seat which brings in tons of light and can act like a second mini sofa for reading or take a break.

Many studio-dwellers opt to use a room divider to visually separate their bedroom area. Rachel kept hers low which doesn’t offer privacy, but does act as a “wall” of the adjacent living room and, most helpfully, contains storage.
