Summer Reading List: Great Graphic Novels for Kids

When I was a kid, one of my favorite things about summer vacation was the luxury of what felt like unlimited time to read, read, read. My biggest problem was finding enough books. If you know a young reader who may be experiencing the same problem, Jenny at Dinner: A Love Story has not only compiled a fantastic list of her daughter Phoebe's favorite graphic novels, Phoebe herself has provided some trustworthy reviews.

For younger readers, eight-year-old Phoebe suggests Meanwhile by Jules Feiffer, about a boy who imagines all kinds of adventures for himself as he pretends that he lives inside the comic books he adores. She also recommends Owly by Andy Runton:

"Well, Owly is a picture book. Most of the time, there's two stories in one big book. There are no words, only symbols in a speech bubble. It can get a little sad, like when Owly loses his friend, Wormy. Maybe like up to second grade would like it. It's a comic. One of the greatest ones ever."

Phoebe provides reviews and recommendations for 14 books in all. Be sure to check them all out at Dinner: A Love Story.
