Take Advantage of the Sun and Build a Juice Pouch

While we were sweltering in the records high temps it occurred to us that perhaps we should take another look at solar powered devices and put this sun to good use! Although we are not sunbathers, we do get quite a bit of sun just running errands and since we do this on foot and through public transit, our messenger bag is our constant companion. When we saw this project that converts a messenger bag into a "Juice Pouch" on Instructables we knew we had found a great solution that would give us the ability to schlep what we need to while harnessing the intense sun into power for our devices.

Similar to the DIY solar bag by Joe Nyneck, this project from PopSci converts a messenger bag into a portable solar charging station.

This DIY project takes less than $50 and 2 hours to make. This project is also classified as being very easy, which is also something we like to see when electricity is involved. The materials needed for this project can be found at your local electronics and craft stores.

We think this project makes a great finished product and is not a bad result for a few hours of one's time! We love the idea of our bag pulling double duty and proving itself useful for more than just carrying tech.

Check out the post on Instructables and PopSci for the DIY instructions.
