Tara’s Project: Empty Wall to Go “Built-In”
While my list was long with projects I need to tackle, I chose the one that will help me do the last of my unpacking. This little wall will be home to my books.
As glaring as my curtainless windows are in the above pic, I just really, really need to get my books out of boxes. The last three bins hanging around have been waiting for a bookshelf, and this short wall by the kitchen will be the perfect spot for a faux “built-in.” Especially since most of my physical book collection is cookbooks.
I loved the brackets on the IKEA FABIAN shelf, but the dimensions aren’t exactly right for the wall, and I’d like a thicker shelf for aesthetic purposes. So I ordered “under-over” brackets separately from Home Depot— which will conveniently act like bookends— and will have planks cut to size. I’m planning to install six shelves, leaving room at the bottom so I can still stash my recycling down there (I’ll have to stash the Swiffer elsewhere).
I’m thinking of staining the wood a few shades darker than the floor, and spray painting the white brackets gold. Can’t wait to unpack those last boxes!
Anyone else building bookshelves?
