Target’s Latest Collab Is the Next Best Thing to Shopping Global Markets
Target brings modern global style to your doorstep with their latest collection. The retailer has joined forces with Accompany, an online marketplace known for scouring the globe “for the coolest, most beautiful and one-of-kind finds” to create a limited edition global bazaar inspired products crafted in several countries, including Kenya, Turkey, Ecuador, India, and Guatemala.
The collection features swimwear, home décor, clothing and beauty-related items that are all punctuated with details created by artisans from around the world, like embroidery, hammered metals, woven baskets and embellishments like tassels and pom-poms.
“Today people are more culturally connected than ever, which creates a desire for aesthetics from every corner of the world,” says Julie Guggemos, senior vice president, Product Design & Development, Target. “Target’s Product Design & Development team has the unique opportunity to travel the globe, get first-hand inspiration and create authentic products for our guests.”
Some standouts include white and blue speckled enamel mugs made in Amatitlan, Guatemala ($9) a color-blocked wooden Nairobi-made Kuni bowl ($32), a block-printed cosmetic bag in bright orange with pink pom poms hanging from its zipper from Jaipur, India ($30) and a navy blue and white dip-dyed cross body bag from Guatemala ($88).
Good design aside, the collection is about more than just bringing great style into your home. It’s part of Accompany’s mission to “build income-generating opportunities for local people across the developing world,” says the company’s founder, Jason Keen.
“Traditional crafts and indigenous methods for creating products are being lost every day, and we aim to support the livelihood and communities of these craftspeople by connecting their goods with a wide consumer base. Through our partnership with Target, we’re able to shine a spotlight on the communities creating these goods and help them continue their traditions, now and in the future,” he says.
Accompany Us to Target comes to 12 select stores and on Target.com on April 23.
