Taro Gomi has written and illustrated hundreds of children's books in his native Japan and is known internationally for his classic, Everyone Poops. His "Really Giant" collection of art activity books stretches the notion of the conventional coloring book with creative exercises for readers of all ages.
Scribbles: A Really Giant Drawing And Coloring Book is filled with line drawings and instructions to get little artists going. The same outline of a wild cat can become a panther, a leopard or a tiger when the reader fills in a solid black coat, spots or stripes.
Squiggles: A Really Giant Drawing And Painting Book features partial images with ideas for completion. One of our favorites is a crowd scene, but oops, the people are missing and the reader needs to fill them in.
Doodles: A Really Giant Coloring And Doodling Book is packed with unfinished pictures for kids to complete however they wish, with creative prompts such as detailing the same landscape for each of the four seasons.
These Really Giant books are really quite big, at nearly 400 pages a pop. We love how they engender creativity and tap into kids' imaginations.
