In every movie I've ever seen, gaggles of girlfriends conquer the mall together, laughing, lunching and giving each other fashion advice. My own girlfriends sometimes invite me along on their excursions and I'm happy to join in for lunch and a chat, but tag-teaming a shopping trip just doesn't work for me. When I shop, I'd rather go solo.
Perhaps I'm thinking about shopping a little differently than most. I enjoy it but I'm also somewhat goal-oriented. I'm not one to try on outfits I have no intention of buying, just for fun.
I like to browse at my own pace (quickly) and buy what I know works for me without being obligated to consult anyone else. I trust my own judgement and, if I do need a second opinion, I can always rely on the spirit of dressing room camaraderie (through which I've met many fantastic ladies while wearing my underwear). I think we can all agree that in the sport of shopping, we're all on the same team.
I also find it peaceful to shop alone. To go exactly where I want, when I want and just let my mind wander without having to make conversation, even with someone whose company I enjoy. It's a nice way to be alone while still being around other people.
So tell me, am I missing out on what makes shopping fun in the first place or do you agree that it's better all by your lonesome? Which style do you embrace?
