It looks like pirate's booty and could be, in this tech-savvy day and age--if you consider USB hubs treasure. Popgadget.com discusses the silly-sounding Japanese translation of the text in the ad, and goes on to explain what the product really does--it's a USB hub that looks like a block of gold, and lights up when powered by either USB or AC.
This bar could be considered more practical than a real gold bar, and at only a fraction of the price of the real thing, a way to get your hands on one: The Thanko Gold Brick is available for $79, while the real thing is over $500 for a 1 oz. bar. Or you could consider it more like a block of cheese...cheesy, that is.
