It's the best feeling in the world when you finally pinpoint a feeling or wish that has been knocking around, undefined, in your head forever. Such was the case when I recently stumbled upon a little suggestion that put into words a concept I heartily embrace: the ten-minutes-to-clean home. What is it?
It means that you keep your home in a state that's only ten minutes away from being ready for company to drop by. I finally found this term over at Cupcakes and Cashmere as one of Emily's ten house rules (they're all pretty good, FYI) and it really hit home.
You see, this concept perfectly describes how I aspire to live: tidy but relaxed, clean but comfortable, lovely but lived in. To me it means my home is organized and thoughtfully decorated, but there might be a few dishes in the sink or shoes on the living room floor. Ten minutes away from clean gives you just the right amount of leeway without letting things get too out of control.
Let's be honest, if your friends are calling you with ten minutes to spare, they're probably not expecting a palace, but wouldn't it be wonderful to welcome spur of the moment guests with the no-stress smile of someone who is winning at life? See you in ten!
