The All-Wood DIY Triple Monitor Mounting Stand

There are plenty of triple monitor mounting solutions available out there, but where’s the challenge in just buying one? LukyNumbrKevin realized he could build his own for much less, utilizing some deft woodworking skills and some SketchUp design skills to design an extremely sturdy desktop mounting solution…

LukyNumbrKevin shared his project over at Reddit, with a comprehensive step-by-step walk-through of everything that went into the $238 project (this includes all three monitors and cables and hardware):

  • Pine for the monitor support Structure (1″ x 8″ x 8′) x2 = $17.00
  • Plywood for the base (24″x24″x3/4″) = $8.00
  • Pine for the Base (2″x3″x8′) = Free (scrap from old projects)
  • Stain = Free (scrap from old projects)
  • Trim – (1″x1″x5′ L shape) = $6.00
  • Hardware/Fasteners = $20.00
  • Wood Screws
  • Vesa Monitor Bolts
  • Spacers
  • Wood glue
  • Total Cost of Materials = $49.00
  • Total Cost of Labor = $0.00
  • Total = $49.00
  • Emachines E211H 21.5″ (Craigslist) = $50.00
  • Emachines E211H 21.5″ (Craigslist) = $70.00
  • Emachines E211H 21.5″ (Craigslist) = $60.00
  • DVI Cable (newegg) = $3.00
  • DVI to HDMI Cable (newegg) = $6.00
  • Total Cost of Monitors = $189.00
  • Total Cost for Nvidia Surround Monitor Setup (Video Card Not Included in cost) = $238.00

This project was spawned after I acquired my 3rd monitor and finally got my Nvidia Surround setup and running. I quickly became unhappy with the stock table mounts that came with the monitors and I hated the day to day movement of the monitor that cause me to constantly be readjusting the monitor position and angles. So I set out on a quest to find a tri monitor mount. I quickly realized that buying one was out of the question. I was not about to spend more money on the mount then I did on the actual monitors. Most of the Tri-Monitor mounts that I found were upwards of $200. I then began searching for a DIY option but wasn’t able to find any good resources online. My final decision was to turn to Google Sketchup to design my own.
