Worth a Listen this Weekend: 5 Best Podcasts By (and For!) Creative People

I've caught the Serial bug, and now I think I'm addicted to podcasts. They're easy to listen to, especially for someone like me with a long commute every day. And it turns out they're a really rich medium for creative people to share their stories and struggles. There are some people out there are doing really brilliant and productive things with podcasting.

I know podcasts have been around for quite a while, but nothing in nouveau-radio media ever compelled me to give it a listen until the pop-culture true-crime phenomenon that is Serial (read more about it here). And I got hooked. The storytelling was fascinating, but I found myself most drawn to the nostalgia of it all. When my husband and I huddled around an iPhone at Christmas to listen to the podcast, it felt like something straight out of the 1930s. Like we were gathering the family around a radio to listen to Orson Welles narrate War of the Worlds.

I soon found that podcasts are convenient. Unlike TV or movies, we could listen to Serial while we were driving, something we do a lot of around the holidays, but also pretty much all the time living in Atlanta. So I decided to see what else was out there in podcastland. The true crime genre was certainly captivating, but if I was going to get addicted to podcasts, I needed something that spoke to my soul.
