Living in New York City apartments for more than a decade before moving into my first house has taught me a thing or two about squeezing a sofa into small spaces — as well as coaxing it through narrow hallways and tight corners to get it there. (Who doesn’t remember the pivot scene from Friends?) And no, I’m not talking about dorm room-ready futons but full-fledged sectionals and roomy loveseats.

Thankfully, I haven’t had to go futon shopping since my college days, and that’s because furniture companies are actually designing on a smaller scale for cozy rooms. If you’re looking for a sofa for your small space, I’ve got just the thing.

The Best Sofas for Small Spaces

From mid-century sofas to bohemian seats with all the flair you could ask for, the small-space-friendly sofas below are perfect for your teeny-tiny place. All of the sofas are under 75 inches wide and under 40 inches deep (give or take an inch!) for major coziness without completely taking over a living room, but as with any type of furniture, measure your space as well as any doorways and hallways at least twice before adding to cart to make sure your dream sofa will fit.

Do you have a sofa you swear by for your small space? We want to hear all about it! Tell us about your favorite finds in the comments below.

Wayfair
$294.99
was $399.99

This pared-down option from Wayfair has won my heart over with its traditional-yet-modern look and great price point. The 58-inch-wide sofa comes with a tufted seat and two bolster pillows, and is available in a bunch of different colors for a piece that'll work in any space.

Walmart
$198.00

The price of this two-seater sofa is unbelievable — but the reviews prove it’s not too good to be true. The DHP Cooper Loveseat offers beautiful and soft linen upholstery, a durable wood frame, and a timeless profile. “I am very picky with couches, but this couch exceeded my expectations!” one review reads. “It is surprisingly comfortable. The cushions are SLIGHTLY firm, but you sink down a little when you sit down so it's almost like a memory foam. The back cushions are fluffy and squishy.”

Sundays
$3690.00

Sunday's Movie Night sofa looks much larger than it's 76-inch width, thanks to its deep, plush, "sink-in" design. It comes in eight colors, each with stain-resistant, durable upholstery, so go ahead and order it in white.

Wayfair
$289.99
was $339.99

This chic chaise-inspired loveseat practically invites you to lounge. The teal option will add a fresh pop of color (you could also opt for a more neutral gray) and the built-in wooden side table is such a bonus.

AllModern
$1049.00
was $1099.00

Hunting for a couch that's also a conversation piece? Well, you can stop your search. This floating mid-century loveseat provides you and your guests with a place to sit without impinging on your aesthetic.

Birch Lane
$1049.00
was $1215.00

If you're really short on space, try a "chair and a half." It's basically what it sounds like — an oversized armchair that can double as a sofa for one. This one from Birch Lane comes in more than 75 colors and patterns so you can really customize it for your room.

Joss & Main
$1649.00

For coastal-inspired vibes, look no further than this neutral-colored loveseat with an exposed solid wooden frame. And if you're worried about getting a white couch, the upholstery is water- and stain- resistant and the couch cushions are removable and machine-washable, too.

Article
$1599.00

If you’ve been dreaming of a buttery-soft, '70s-inspired tan leather couch, you don’t have to give that idea up because of your space constraints. DTC furniture brand Article makes this caramel stunner in a 72"-wide footprint. I actually own the larger 88" size, and I absolutely recommend it — no matter which size you grab.

AllModern
$1349.00
was $1449.00

This MCM-inspired sofa is sleek, but not too sleek that you don't want to sink into its plush seats. It's only 55 inches wide, and going for one of the deep velvet shades will give you the most impact for such a compact sofa.

10 / 16
West Elm
$1039.20
was $1199.00

At just 60 inches wide and 35 inches deep, West Elm’s Andes Sofa comes in truly pint-sized proportions (although what you’re seeing above is a larger-scale version). We love that you can customize the sofa to your space and style — the amount of made-to-order color and fabric options available are well worth the six- to nine-week wait.

Walmart
$610.99
was $839.99

This sleeper sofa will convert into a bed in seconds and even features a charging port for phones and cup holders on the armrests. While it might not be a full-on guest room, it has enough redeeming qualities to make your visitors feel very welcome. And, of course, it still has cozy, welcoming vibes when folded up, too.

12 / 16
Amazon
$828.80

With its flared arms and exposed wooden base and legs, this loveseat is all mid-century modern in style. Put one in your living room, and you won’t have to do much else for decoration.

13 / 16
Urban Outfitters
$1299.00

Lest you think all the small-space options on the market are clean-lined and boxy, Urban Outfitters offers this shapely stunner, which features a curved back. At about 75 inches wide, it's roughly the size of a futon, but feels decidedly more elevated.

14 / 16
Burrow
$799.00
was $999.00

The modular design of Burrow's sofa gives you maximum flexiblity, a cornerstone of the DTC brand's ethos. The two-seater makes a compact-yet-capacious sofa — or, with the addition of a matching ottoman, a corner recliner. Add another seating section for a larger sofa, if you have the space. In our review of a larger version of this sofa, we noted it's "all clean lines and mid-century flair," but also "surprisingly soft for such an angular style of sofa."

15 / 16
Anthropologie
$1798.00

Anthropologie furniture is quite the financial investment, but this compact little guy seems within reach if you have the budget. There’s a 70-inch-wide option for those of you working with really limited square footage, plus the deep, single cushion is perfect for kicking back and relaxing.

IKEA
$749.00

It’s tough to talk about small-space sofas without mentioning IKEA. Everyone’s favorite Swedish retailer has a nice farmhouse-modern small-space option for all you Fixer Upper-style fans. Best of all, it’s less than $800 and currently comes in so many different colorways.
