The California Desk by J. Rusten Furniture

This beautiful desk is carefully cut into the iconic shape of California and crafted from native, salvaged Claro Walnut for its top and native, salvaged Western Big Leaf Maple for the base–all finished off with a hand-rubbed, low-toxic tung oil.

Created by furniture maker Jared Rusten of J. Rusten Furniture Studio, it's just one of his many pieces featuring mostly select North American hardwoods, and using local trees destined for the fireplace or landfill whenever possible.

Each piece of furniture is finished with a hand-rubbed oil and varnish mixture, providing depth and dimension to the grain, an easily renewable finish that is natural and enduring.

While the 7-foot long California desk pictured has been sold, Jared will build on commission an identical desk, made from the same wood, obtained from a single salvaged tree milled and air-dried over the course of a number of years.
