Two years ago, when I lived in a 500 square foot cottage, we had 12 people over for Thanksgiving. Counting our sofa, we didn't have 12 places for people to sit, let alone dine at a table. I probably would have done this had I thought of it.
Last year, AT Boston asked if this bench was Hot or Not. Now that many of us are preparing for holiday dinners, we're wondering if this would be a good solution for the unfortunate circumstance of running out of chairs. The solution to our situation above was to ask each friend to bring a chair, along with their dish to share.
The idea? Take what chairs you have, shim with books, and add a plank to multiply the amount of seating you have. Just be careful when getting up ...
Designed by Jo Nagasaka of Sschemata Architecture, the benches were exhibited at the New Tokyo Contemporaries exhibition at the Shin-Marunouchi building in Marunouchi, Tokyo last year.
