The Gallery: 6 Artists @ 3rd Rail Studio
Introducing the 3rd Rail Studio a terrific new gallery and independent work space in Westchester hosting a show of 6 emerging artists opening this weekend. Kevin Peterson’s translucent oil paintings (shown above) are worked in a lush palette with layers of imagery that explore memories and how we remember them. (There will be some small treasures painted on wood available for sale too!)
Gregg Hill will be showing work exploring a few themes: paintings of animals, paintings of people, and multi-media works including a series of painted assemblages of flattened cans he’s collected along the roadside. (He came across the gallery space on one of his collecting jaunts, made an inquiry, and thus the show was born!)
Cans, 1. 2006. Mixed media on wood panel.
Lyerly’s work reflects her love of line, color and simplified forms and explores their interplay with india ink and the saturated vibrancy of marker. She will also be showing her whimsical hanging wire sculptures.
Square Dance 2, 2006 Ink and marker, 10 x 15
Christopher Smith paints stunning and seriously vast oil paintings of bridges and other open-work structures.
Oil on canvas, 66”x 78”
I have a few pieces in the show as well (Amy Chase Gulden, that’s me). I’m interested in capturing shadows and usually work outdoors, composing shadows directly on paper or wood panels.
Oxalis Shadow, The Barn. 10 x 8, 2006 Pencil & gesso on wood panel
Jack Leamy is a San Francisco artist who will be showing his oil paintings worked in broad strokes both elemental and playful.
Now Overcomes Everything (2006)
36″ x 36″ acrylic, gesso on canvas
3rd Rail is run by Christine Milo who welcomes ideas for new shows — so if you are an emerging curator or artist, take a shot and propose a show! The gallery space is big, high-ceilinged and beautiful, housed in a freshly renovated warehouse/garage.
