This year marks the 150th anniversary of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, an iconic institution that preserves work by the most famous artists in history—from Vincent Van Gogh to Georgia O’ Keefe and Claude Monet—and makes them accessible for the public to witness. To commemorate this significant milestone, The Met is celebrating in the most plant-tastic way (pun intended)—by releasing design-forward plant accessories that art lovers can enjoy from the comfort of home.

The Met Store is honoring the museum’s sesquicentennial by releasing a collection of planters and message pops with online plant shop The Sill. Inspired by The Met, its signature red color, pre-Columbian pottery, and Vincent Van Gogh, the two companies collaborated on the “The Met 150 Edit” line to create new perspectives on the Museum’s collection.

The Met Red Planter

Everything in the plant line is intentional, including the shape and color of the vessels. “We landed on a bowl-shaped planter with a cylinder saucer, inspired by ancient South American ceramic vessels in The Met collection,” Caroline Ackerman, a designer at The Sill, said in a press release. “The small 5” pot comes in The Met’s signature red with a glossy finish, and the medium 7” pot comes in a sandy tone with a matte finish. We think they make a nice pair—one pop of color and one timeless neutral.”

The Met Message Pops

The same thoughtful (but slightly more humorous) design went into ceramic message pops that are inspired by famous works of art at The Met, from “Untitled Greens #1” to “Vincent Van Grow” (I dare you not to smile at that last one).

The Met Precolumbian Planter x ZZ Plant

The planters and message pops are available for purchase at The Met Store website and The Sill website, but if you’re looking to add a new plant baby to your collection, The Sill is also selling the planters with potted plants (for an extra price). You can pot a fern, philodendron, or ZZ plant in a medium-sized planter and bring the entire finished product to life.
