When we have prepped Scary Stairs posts in the past — Scary Stairs Roundup & Call Your Contractor! More Scary Stairs — part of the fun was that they weren't really that scary. But these stairs that access a roof terrace at a home in Hyougo Japan sent chills through our bones because they are suspended over a shallow pool of water.

This home and office hybrid building is by Japanese firm NRM-Architects Office.

If you can get beyond the stairs and pool, check out the rest of the home and office at Dezeen | Residence in Kurakuen by NRM-Architects Office.
