The Ultra-Compact DIY $47 IKEA Standing Laptop Desk

As often as a daydream of working from one of these, the reality is I live in a modest sized apartment with an even more modest sized home office. I've been hoping to work part of the day standing up, but finding the room has been tough. Programmer Josh Earl points out there's an affordable and space efficient solution waiting at IKEA...

Josh shared the very same problem as I of limited space, which rules out most pre-fabricated standing desk out there. IKEA to the rescue (in his case, an Amazon IKEA reseller that will deliver right to your door)!

Then I stumbled across IKEA's wall-mounted drop leaf folding table, available on Amazon for $35.49, plus $11.99 for shipping. It seemed too good to pass up, and I'm glad I ordered one.

Add a desk grommet and the setup is that much more streamlined for a handsome, occasional desk.

Josh also shares a few tips about installing the folding table, notably diverging from IKEA's instructions and putting together the wall mount section first, then using it as a guide to position the proper alignment (his personal setup is at 41" off the ground for his 5'9" height...perfectly the same height as I!).
