The Unintentional Upside to MCMBKNY’s Love of Mid-Century
It happened by accident, really. When Mante and Alex first fell in love with Mid-century furniture, they had no intention of opening their own shop—MCMBKNY. Having grown weary of the wasteful culture plaguing interior decor, they began looking for vintage pieces with quality craftsmanship.
“Most of the things that are produced today have very temporary lifespan,” said Mante. “At some point we realized that we collected more then we needed so we decided to set up an online store.”
The fledgling local business has since found a home in Brooklyn’s Bushwick neighborhood and MCMBKNY is now Mante and Alex’s full-time job. Selling highboys and credenzas to neighbors across the five boroughs has proven to be a natural fit.
“Mid-century Modern design perfectly reflects the idea of simple living,” Alex said. “The minimalistic lines of design and usually small scale size fit perfectly for New York spaces.”
You don’t need to live in New York to shop MCMBKNY. They offer shipping within the US, along with local delivery.
“The priority should be a design that fits your needs and your space,” says Mante. “When people buy from us, hopefully they are getting not just a piece of furniture but the whole idea behind it.”
