The Upgrade Guide: Laptops

Are you still holding onto that old laptop that you got since you were in college? Looking to expand your computer experience beyond web browsing and Facebook? If you are ready to dive into the world of photo-editing and content creation, we have the laptop upgrade guide for you!

Our Favorite Performance Laptop: MacBook Pro 15-inch. It's no secret that we at Unplggd are fans of Apple's MacBooks. Not because we're fanatical fanboy/fangirls, but we've come to use and love the reliability as well as the build quality of the MacBooks. Even now, we have yet to seen a PC laptop that rivals the clean design and build quality of the unibody MacBook. We chose the 15-inch over the 13-inch because of the dedicated graphic as well as the additional screen real estate. The dedicated graphic means that there is a graphic card built-in to process graphics, so it won't share the memory with your built-in RAM. We recommend configuring with the hi-res screen, which bumps the screen resolution from 1440x900 to 1680x1050. The additional screen real estate will prove useful when multitasking on the go without an external monitor.

Our Favorite Performance PC Laptop: Sony F Series laptop. The Sony Vaio series laptops have long held a place in our hearts as a close second to Apple in the design department. The F series is Vaio's performance laptop lineup. With full HD screen resolution (1980x1080) and powerful dedicated graphics, this does offer more computing power than the MacBook Pro for a lower price. We also like the fact that it has an HDMI port for easy multimedia connection as well as the option for a 3D screen for those who like choices.

Our Favorite Mobile Laptop: MacBook Air 13-inch. The original performance mobile laptop still holds top position in the category. The build quality combined with the recently upgraded performance puts this at the top of our mobile laptop list. We opted for the 13-inch model because this is a size that is more comfortable on the go; it also offers more performance as well as 128GB of flash storage.

Our Favorite Mobile PC Laptop: Samsung Series 9. This is the mobile laptop that all MacBook Air owners secretly wants to have. The Series 9 offers a refreshing departure from the slew of "me too" ultra thin laptops on the market, with its clean and original design. Also coming in at 13-inch the Series 9 matches the MacBook Air spec with 128GB of SSD and 4GB of RAM. The Samsung also offers HDMI instead of Apple's micro Display port for a wider range of video/audio output.
