Simple, beautiful and unique. These are the easiest words to describe the Ledge desk from Seattle-based furniture design and build company Urbancase. Their philosophy is to create objects that contribute to a simpler, pared back lifestyle focused on basic aesthetic elements and functionality. What more do you need?

Designed to be installed directly onto a wall (they provide an excellent installation video at their website), the Ledge ($1500 with shipping) measures 42 inches long by 18 inches deep. It's made from Walnut or MDF but the material required to produce the desk is very minimal. Urbancase says they mind the environment with everything they do and make informed decisions about the materials and methods they use.

The Ledge includes a discreet cord management system, drawer, and pullout shelf/work surface and can be used as a desk or a stereo/media cabinet, as shown below:

Introduced in May, their 2010 collection has already received praise from media including GQ. An optional floating shelf includes adjustable aluminum shelves and bungees for envelope storage. it also holds DVDs, albums, or CDs. There's even a promotional video for the Ledge:
