Cozying Up For The Winter

Cozying Up For The Winter

The Winter Solstice is just days away. We've been digging out last year's mittens and scarves in preparation. The wardrobe is the first thing to change with the seasons but the home is never far behind.

When we think of winter, we think of cozying up on the home front. What types of changes have you made in your home to prepare for the cold? We've done the following:

  • Set out comforters. Everyone in the family has a heavier down comforter on the bed.

  • Entryway. We've cleared out extra space for winter boots and coats. The heavy layers take up more space than jackets and flip flops.

  • Throws and blankets. A new wool throw and a few smaller blankets sit in a basket next to the sofa waiting for us in the evenings.

  • Candles. With the shorter days, we like to light candles in the evening, just because.

  • Seasonal books. I've gathered our Christmas and Winter-themed books, and added new volumes, into one spot and read them with the kids nightly.

  • Nature display. Our nature table reflects the season - pinecones, red berries, and sticks painted white.

  • Citrus. There are boxes and bags of clementines and other oranges piled high on the kitchen counter.
