Project by: Monica
Location: Los Angeles, California
When I moved into my apartment this past May, I knew I had to do something about my floors covered in worn-out carpet. I wanted my stairs to become the statement piece of my home, because they are the first thing you see when walking in the door.
I wanted to use an interesting material or technique so I set out to look for something in Los Angeles. Luckily I stumbled upon "The Reclaimer" in Tarzana, California. The wood I purchased is from a demolished basketball court in Downtown Los Angeles (I was told Kobe played on this court once).
The project took about one week. I hired a professional flooring installer and worked with him to select the exact pieces I wanted. I wanted to include as much lettering as possible and preserve the natural beauty of the wood.
