These days, it’s hard to notice our “in-between” moments because for so many of us, any free time we have is filled by our phones (myself definitely included, although I’m working on it). But what if we used even just a few of these actually available minutes to do something useful? Like the raindrops that fill a bucket, using this time wisely can add up to a clean home, instead of scroll after scroll.

One of those little collections of minutes many of us have sprinkled throughout our days happens in front of the microwave. Here are a few ways to make the most of the time you have while you’re waiting for something to warm up:

  1. Empty the dishwasher.
  2. Scrub the sink with Bar Keeper’s Friend.
  3. Unload the dish drainer.
  4. Declutter the junk drawer.
  5. Polish your stainless steel appliances.
  6. Run a credit card between your stovetop and the counter to get the caught crumbs out.
  7. Clean old leftovers out of the refrigerator.
  8. Wash dirty dishes that are in the sink.
  9. Thoroughly clean one small appliance like your toaster oven or standing mixer.
  10. Declutter your water bottle collection.
  11. Magic Erase your cabinet doors.
  12. Declutter your tea collection.
  13. Take everything out of one drawer, wipe out the drawer, and put everything back.
  14. Straighten up a couple shelves in the pantry.
  15. Go through the stack of coupons in your other junk drawer.
  16. Do a quick clean under your appliances.
  17. Wipe down your faucet.
  18. Set out a fresh set of dish rags.
  19. Clear off the counters.
  20. Clean the water dispenser in the fridge.
  21. Wash out your water bottle.
