This Affordable Find Solved My Biggest Issue with My Bedding
As someone who writes about interior design for a living, I spend a lot of time thinking about the products that I choose to bring into my home. However, it’s always bothered me how basically all comforters are white, and I know this can be a controversial opinion. Don’t get me wrong: A crisp, white comforter looks beautiful and is a surefire way to make your bedroom feel like a five-star hotel. In my experience though, no matter how often you wash it, a white comforter always winds up discolored or covered in wine and coffee stains. As someone who loves to curl up in bed with a movie, large bowl of popcorn, and some Pinot, this is one fact I know all too well.
I can practically hear you saying, “That’s why duvet covers exist,” but hear me out for a second. Duvet covers might be an easy, obvious solution, but my comforter always slumps into the corner of the duvet cover. Nobody wants to fix and re-fluff their duvet cover all the time—or at least, I don’t. So what’s a person who doesn’t like white comforters to do?
Invest in a colored comforter, that’s what. When my boyfriend and I moved in together a few months ago, I was elated that he packed an extremely comfortable, and, wait for it… dark navy comforter. But since he’s had this comforter for years—I’m talking college—it shouldn’t come as a surprise that it’s literally ripping at the seems. On a whim, I started searching for colorful comforters and found so many awesome (and affordable!) options that we can upgrade it with. My boyfriend bought his at Bed Bath & Beyond many moons ago, but many retailers have this game-changing layer tucked into their bedding department offerings—you just have to know to look for it.
