This Furniture Show Is Entirely Devoted to Cats
Cat lovers, you have to check this out right meow. This new design show in Singapore is totally devoted to furniture that’s exclusively for felines.
Aptly named 9 Lives, the show includes practical and aesthetically pleasing furniture exclusively for our feline friends. The show features nine designers (one for each of the lives) who “express their take on furniture design for cats for urban, compact living spaces.”
Sometimes it’s tough to decorate when our kitty overlords rule the roost. And other times, it’s just hard to find something they’ll enjoy that’s actually attractive. But browsing through the designs, it looks like there is something for every type of cat and cat owner. Watermeowlon has an 80s Memphis vibe, while Cat Temple and Bast feature more traditional shapes and materials, and return to the “old glory of cats as exalted creatures.” Grids was designed to be as affordable as possible, utilizing “mostly available parts sourced from local neighborhood shops to help minimize costs.”
9 Lives aims to showcase how good design can improve experiences and cultivate a deeper appreciation for quality design. “As more Singaporeans adopt street cats and integrate them into their households, there is a growing demand for quality cat furniture,” artist and entrepreneur Tan Chin Chin told Design Milk.
According to 9 Lives, live cats “may be present at the event,” which would definitely ensure a “pawesome” time. Plus, a part of the proceeds from the show go to the Cat Welfare Center.
The show is part of Singapore Design Week, which runs from March 3 through March 12. 9 Lives is open March 4 through March 6 during Design Week, and will be exhibited at two local cat cafés from March 7 through March 31.
