When most people think of a prefab home, they probably imagine a trailer — not exactly the height of style. But Danish design company Vipp, also responsible for beautiful kitchens and faucets and even dustpans, is taking steps to change all that. Their latest 'product' is a whole house, which, for a single price, comes fully outfitted, with walls, floors, windows, furniture, and even bedding and cutlery. It's perfect for stylish people looking for a stylish new vacation home, and also for those who hate making decisions.
The shelter, which with its minimal detailing and walls of glass recalls Mies van der Rohe's Farnsworth House, measures a relatively roomy 592 square feet. The first floor does appear to be configured a little oddly, with a backless daybed serving as the only place to lounge. But if you're the sort of person who buys a house that looks like a sculpture, then maybe that is just your thing. You can, in a pinch, push the daybed against the wall as you watch the snow drifting softly through the branches of the perfect trees of the perfect Scandinavian forest where your perfect Scandinavian Home is inevitably located.
The purchase price of the home also includes a fully outfitted kitchen that may or may not have been inspired by Darth Vader. A fireplace adds a little warmth, as a contrast to the dark dark walls.
On the second level, accessibly via ladder, is a surprisingly cozy sleeping loft. The real selling point here is the giant skylight that comprises the entire ceiling — another opportunity to commune with the (hopefully pristine) natural environment.
All this can be yours for $585K. And we truly mean all — the furniture, the light fixtures, even the toilet brush. Now you just have to find somewhere to put it.
