Superfan Style: This Portal Bedroom Is Not A Lie

Sometimes you love a video game or TV show so much you just want to live in it. Usually that means getting a few Hannibal or Game of Thrones-inspired accessories, but sometimes a person wants to go even further, like with this bedroom inspired by the video game Portal (a personal favorite.)

When Lauren of The Portal Bedroom moved into her own apartment, she had a completely blank slate and realized she could do whatever she wanted with it. Then she discovered instructions for a DIY Infinity Mirror and realized, as any good fan would, that an infinity mirror looks just like the portals in the popular video game.

So she decided to live in Portal.

If you're going to do something, why do it halfway? Her goal was to create a room that not only looked like she was living in a cell in a morally questionable superscience facility, but one that would also be aesthetically appealing to people who wouldn’t recognize the reference.

Starting with a completely blank slate, she took the rugged, aged look of Portal 2's environment (as opposed to the slick chrome modernism of the original Portal) as inspiration and gave her room a careful hand-done paint job to look like the game's backgrounds. The infinity mirror "portals" are the pièces de résistance, of course, and she finished off the room with some retro Aperture Science prints and coordinating pillows.

It might be a bit prisonlike for some people, but I can imagine some fans are drooling with envy right now.

Check out The Portal Bedroom for more photos and the step-by-step chronicle of her design process.
