This Removable Wallpaper Collection Brings Book Illustrations to Your Walls
Lovers of picture books know that the book illustrations are true artwork and often our very first introduction to visual art. Images from children’s books can stay with us forever, coming back to us when we see a color scheme that looks like Leo Lionni’s Swimming or a Joshua tree that could have come straight from a Dr. Seuss story. That is to say, we’d love the opportunity to see beautiful illustrations even after we close a book, and now we can.
Penguin Random House and home decor company Chasing Paper have come together to create a removable wallpaper collection for people of all ages, featuring designs by Rachel Ignotofsky (Women in Science and The Wondrous Workings of Planet Earth) and Kelsey Oseid (What We See in the Stars and Whales), as well as literary lifestyle brand Out of Print.
The collection includes six designs, all library-, animal-, or space-themed. There’s Show Your Shelf, from Out of Print, which will make any room look like the library of your dreams. It comes in three colorways: blue, purple, and multi.
Amazing Animals, designed by Ignotofsky, comes in gray and blue, and shows animals from all different habitats living together: bison, orca, narwhal, tiger, and more.
Similarly, Under the Sea, also by Ignotofsky, whimsically depicts ocean creatures like the octopus, jellyfish, seahorse, and crab.
To the Moon, Ignotofsky’s third design in the collection, will inspire young science-lovers to dream of space with its moon, star, and spaceship illustrations.
Oseid’s take on space is Night Sky, which shows constellations in an inky blue sky.
Finally, Oseid’s Whale Mural, inspired by her book Whales, takes those science-class whale-species poster to a new scale, showing many kinds of whales in tender detail.
The Chasing Paper x Penguin Random House removable wallpaper collection is available now at Chasing Paper. Each design costs $40 for a two-foot-by-four-foot panel of peel-and-stick paper.
