Power “Throuples”: This Kitchen Trio Will Live Happily Ever After
Move over power couples, because now there are power throuples: a group of three things in an equal and beneficial relationship in which not one is expendable. Done right, it’s a beautiful thing that elevates all involved, as this one particular kitchen combo proves. Retro pastel fridges, white cabinets, and metallic hardware form a happy perfect union that will never break up, and will never go out of style.
#1: Pastel, Retro Refrigerators
Not that I’m playing favorites, but these fridges are probably the showstoppers of these kitchens. Above, Diana chose Big Chill when remodeling her Michigan home, but there are the more diminutive and adorable Smegs to consider as well. And if either of those are outside your budget, there’s always Ashley’s strategy of buying a vintage fridge and repainting it a cool color — like pink! Either way these fun fridges set the tone for a cheerful and happy space that will make you smile whenever you enter the room.
Diana’s Retropolitan refrigerator is about $3,595 from the Big Chill website. You can find a Smeg for either $999 (small from Urban Outfitters), $2,000 (medium from West Elm) or $3,000 (large from AJ Madison). If you’re lucky, you might also find one at the new HomeSense stores! If you go the vintage route, head over the Craiglist and hope you find a good deal.
#2: White Cabinetry
White kitchen cabinets are extremely easy to find and the final cost will depend on the size of your kitchen, naturally. On the lower end are IKEA’s ready-to-assemble budget option. Home Depot has both in-stock cabinets, as well as the ability to plan something more custom. If you want truly OOAK, search for a local cabinetmaker to make your kitchen dreams come true.
#3: Warm Metallic Hardware
A warm finishing detail soften the stark white of the cabinets and make the space more homey. In this photographer’s bungalow, another mint green fridge and some copper pulls. (Also lead image above.)

What do you think? Does this style trio have staying power in the kitchen? Can we make “throuple” happen as a word?
