This Tiny House Squeezes So Much Style Into 250 Square Feet
David Latimer, founder of New Frontier Tiny Homes in Nashville, Tennessee, and his team have really outdone themselves, packing an unprecedented level of upgrades into 250 square feet. This luxurious tiny home has got everything, down to the hammered copper details and matching Moscow Mule mugs.
As seen on HGTV, and probably every friend’s tiny house Pinterest board, the original flagship design from New Frontier Tiny Homes, the Alpha, is one of the most-pinned tiny home designs on the site — and was featured in this inspirational profile on House Beautiful.
The newest model is named after the first customer’s child and also, Latimer says in a video tour on YouTube, a reference to MC Escher— “the master of perspective.” The Escher debuted in early September on Season 6, Episode 3 of HGTV’s Tiny House, Big Living, and as you can imagine with all those luxury details these made-in-Nashville beauties don’t come cheap: the Alpha model starts at $95,000; the new Escher now starts at $139,900. (There are also the Cedar Mountain and Riverside designs, and custom build options, in between.)
In the kitchen, the Escher tiny home features porcelain countertops and an apron sink with hammered copper backsplash, plus a gleaming copper pot rack hanging from the ceiling (with copper accents carried throughout the house). Appliances include a full-size fridge, dishwasher drawer with kick plate and hammered copper drawer handle (to match the backsplash), a 36″ Woolf cooktop that’s “literally the nicest you can buy”, a high-efficiency washer/dryer combo, and a Newport heating unit (originally designed for high-end sailing vessels).
From the kitchen, sliding shoji paper doors lead to the bedroom, positioned over the gooseneck trailer, that fits a King size bed — surrounded by picture windows and (what look like) Schoolhouse Electric pendants. There’s also a second, lofted, L-shaped toddler bedroom with “the nicest baby gate you’ve ever seen”, accessed by a “100-year ladder” handcrafted of solid oak and copper piping, and a full-size bathroom with a composting toilet and a tiled shower with solid walnut surround, glass walls, and a river rock floor that can “easily fit two people.”
Because the mom works from home, there’s a handcrafted solid walnut standing desk that looks out through the two screened side windows and can be folded down for more hall space when entertaining.
Because the dad is a chef, the commercial-grade kitchen’s stairs pull out to reveal New Frontier’s signature pop-up dining room that seats 12 people, centered between the garage doors and the sliding deck doors that lead out to New Frontier’s other signature feature — a pop-out porch — for some truly Pinterest-worthy indoor/outdoor entertaining.
But the real piece de resistance is the inlay accent wall that’s a work of art unto itself, featuring reclaimed wood and hammered copper in a boho starburst design and can be seen from virtually every angle of the tiny home’s interior and exterior. Outside, like all New Frontier homes, the Escher is clad in shou sugi ban cedar siding, natural cedar, and standing seam metal.
