Make Music Outside!

Make Music Outside!

Sometimes musical play indoors can seem a little wild, especially when you have multiple toddlers in the mix. But now that Spring is here, and outside is a little warmer, why not grab the boombox, your favorite kids CD or two, and take your mini maestros outside with one of these simple DIY instruments?

1. Chasing Cheerios' daughter loved this water xylophone so much, she made it twice! If you want to get more precise about tuning your water xylophone, there is an even more in-depth tutorial put together by Phil Tulga.

2. This Green Mamma from Days of You and Me made an outdoor "banging wall" out of thrifted pots and pans.

3. Metal bowls filled with water make the most amazing sounds! Check out this idea in depth, along with a number of other water-meets-music play ideas on the Australian Child's Play Music blog.

4. Motherhood on a Dime suggests clay pots tied to a pole or beam for a different kind of banging wall.

5. Finally, how could you go past the old favorite: wind chimes. Make these chimes (from Hands On As We Grow) together and leave up all Spring and Summer long.
