Three DIY December Countdown Calendars

Growing up in a religious household, the first day of December meant opening the first door of the Advent calendar. These calendars were basically a poster with twenty four little doors on it, each with a different verse of the Bible printed behind the flap. I have never forgotten how exciting it was to open each door, which meant we were one day closer to Christmas. Since this is the season of giving, here are not one, not two, but three tutorials on how to make your own Advent or countdown calendars, using, of all things, toilet paper rolls.

Over the past three years, Maya at maya*made has created three different countdown calendars, using toilet paper rolls and a healthy dose of ingenuity. It is amazing to see how the same humble object can result in such varied designs, all visually pleasing and cleverly constructed.

The real bonus is that she has shared her list of activities that will be hidden behind each door. To say her family's December is going to be heartwarming and magical is a gross understatement.

Links to all three of Maya's tutorials can be found at maya*made.
