A few months ago, Tia Mowry posted a photo of the dramatic black walls in her bedroom and bathroom, which the world was 100 percent here for. And now, it’s time to fawn over another room in Mowry’s home: her white and marble kitchen with an unexpected twist.

This past week, Mowry hosted a virtual cooking class in partnership with the Capital One Walmart Rewards Card from her home in Los Angeles, CA. She was demoing her cornbread and collard greens recipes in her soothing white and marble kitchen, which is gorgeous in itself. But while the design sounds traditional, look closely to see the fresh take on a classic combo—the counter is white while the backsplash is marble.

In marble countertops in a mostly white kitchen are classic for a reason, but Mowry flips the style and it makes for a refreshing take. The white countertops are seamless with the cabinets to bring light, airy energy into the space, while the gray and white marbled backsplash adds texture and depth to the room.

It’s a smart choice for durability, too; marble can be a finicky counter material, as it can stain and acid causes dull spots called etching. For perfectionists, a marble backsplash will save you from accidentally damaging your counters.

This isn’t the first time Mowry has shown off her kitchen, either. On Instagram, she’s posted photos posing and cooking in her kitchen, like in the photo above. Those bright apples bring a lovely pop of color, don’t you think?

To get the look on a budget (and without any demolition necessary), swap real marble for marble contact paper or peel-and-stick wallpaper on your current backsplash. It’s renter friendly, and as long as you’re applying a smooth surface, it will look like the pricey stone at a fraction of the cost.
