‘Tis the season where we constantly daydream of a cozy cabin getaway while living vicariously through the #cabinlife hashtags on Instagram. When it comes to Insta-worthy escapes, Budapest design studio Hello Wood’s Grand Cabin certainly fits the bill.

Located near Csóromfölde, Hungary, the environmentally friendly tiny dwelling was built as a part of a pilot project for the studio back in 2018 where students and architects from around the globe were tasked to collaborate on tiny, movable, livable wooden cabins with environmentally friendly designs.

The contemporary A-shaped cabin was built with pre-fab wooden panels and inspired by Czech-style mountain lodges. Even with just 324 square feet of space, Grand Cabin can accommodate eight overnight guests. However, the space can hold up to 20 people inside for a party, thanks to the builders’ decision to keep the central area open and free of room dividers, such as walls or additional floors.

Another unique design element can be seen in the placement of the two bedrooms. The “boxes,” or capsules, in which these rooms are situated are attached to the outside of the cabin but can be accessed from the inside as well. The interior also features large glass windows to fill the space with natural light while providing a view of the natural surroundings. Grand Cabin also is decorated with Hungarian designer furniture and accessories.

Designed as a relaxing retreat for friends, the design is a representation of HelloWood’s signature “blurring of boundaries between community and private areas.”

After completing the pilot project, Hello Wood announced that it would gladly build cabin houses for interested parties, writing, “After rethinking, revisiting this project in the past year we are glad to say that we can bring this cabin to anyone’s home/backyard/pier/*name a place* and build it up there.”
