This Brutalist House for Sale in the Boston Suburbs Has Curving Concrete Walls — and a Sparkling Pool

Brutalism is beautiful. Full stop. I will not be taking questions at this time. Instead, I want to direct your attention to this concrete landmark for sale in the suburbs of Boston. Its curving walls and gigantic windows are a real treat.

First, a little architectural history: The house was built in 1971 by architects Mary Otis Stevens and Thomas F. McNulty. The pair is best known for designing the Lincoln House, another brutalist structure in Lincoln, Massachusetts, that was unfortunately demolished in 1999. This house for sale at 15 Young Road in Weston, though, is thankfully still standing — it’s one of four brutalist houses done by the duo in the area, and the only one remaining. Originally created for art collector Lois Torf and her husband, the Torf House, as it’s known, counts three bedrooms, four bathrooms, and unending architectural character.

Inside, huge walls of glass and clerestory windows let in loads of light. The sinuous living room offers a built-in concrete fireplace, not to mention plenty of wall space for hanging art. The dining room overlooks the yard while the kitchen features a long, rectangular skylight above. Built-in curving bookshelves in the den, as well as built-in storage, benches, and desks in the bedrooms and beyond, make this custom-designed home feel like a work of art in its own right.

The pool outside, meanwhile, feels like a natural extension of the living spaces. There are more curved walls beside it, as well as sculptures that were commissioned to mirror the home’s unique design.

The asking price on this one-of-a-kind home is $2,495,000. It’s listed by Dean Poritzky with Engel & Völkers.
