When I asked Ms. Pink if I could feature her home on Apartment Therapy, she seemed almost apologetic that she didn’t have photos of every room of the 1,350-square-foot split level flat in a Victorian house she shares with her partner Mr. Black, two of their three sons, and three cats. Though this house tour doesn’t feature every inch of their home, there’s still an incredible amount of color, pattern, style, and inspiration packed in every photo!
Mr. Pink and Mr. Black aren’t just partners in life, they’re also partners in design as the founders of Quirk & Rescue, a London-based company specializing in “wallpaper, cushions, prints, fabric, and bespoke hand-painted furniture. All their designs are original, based on elements as diverse as typography, music, and 19th century optical illusions,” reads their bio on the company’s website.
Apartment Therapy Survey:
Our Style: Colorful!
Inspiration: A mixture of ’60s, ’70s, ’80s textiles and design; Punk.
Favorite Element: I honestly can’t choose. I like my eyes to rest on color and pattern wherever I look, therefore there is color and pattern everywhere!
What is your favorite room and why? The living room, it’s a happy room and where the family comes together to relax.
If you could magically change something about your home, what would it be? Ah, that would be the kitchen which is functional but not as colorful as we’d like… yet.
Which fictional character would be most at home in your place? Willy Wonka(original version with Gene Wilder)
Is there anything that embarrasses you about your home? I guess the kitchen. I’ve never posted it on social media but as mentioned above we’re going to remedy that ASAP!
What do friends say about your home when they visit? They always try and see if they can spot anything that has been added since their last visit. There usually has.
Biggest Challenge: Painting the floors; I had to wait until the house was empty during a school holiday.
Proudest DIY: As above, the painted floors and stairs, not a difficult project but very time consuming. Both have four coats of varnish to minimize scuffs etc.
Biggest Indulgence: The neon orange and pink screen print in the living room.
Best Advice: If you like it that’s enough. Doesn’t matter if it’s not popular or “on trend.” You’re the one living in your home.
