Trader Joe’s Just Announced Some New Beauty Products That are Coming in 2020
In my humble opinion as Kitchn’s resident Trader Joe’s expert, the store’s best kept secret is its beauty aisle, which boasts wildly-underrated and well-priced finds (including but not limited to this $9 gel facial moisturizer which very well may be a dupe for a popular name brand version). Luckily for any fellow TJ’s beauty junkies, who happen to agree with me, the latest episode of the Inside Trader Joe’s podcast is centered around everything of the sort.
Before the TJ’s team got into the nitty-gritty of future beauty launches, Matt Sloan (TJ’s Marketing Product Guy), Tara Miller (Director of Words, Phrases, and Clauses), and Taryn Aguiar, (Category Manager for Health and Beauty Aids) first discussed the most appealing part about them: their comparably low prices.
“A lot of money in cosmetics goes into marketing and at Trader Joe’s, we don’t have that, so we can really focus on just the ingredient cost. And we also, just like in food, work directly with suppliers who are manufacturing the materials,” explained Taryn.
Matt chimed in to reiterate that that strategy is Trader Joe’s entire business model (AKA why everything there is just so darn reasonably priced): “If you go out after specific ingredients, great quality ingredients, and you work directly with the producer of the stuff — the maker of the product — and you don’t have a bunch of expensive fancy marketing campaigns, so then it’s just the product. It’s the cost of goods.”
Without any further ado, here are the future reasonably-priced beauty finds you should keep an eye out for!
1. Watermelon Face Spray
Stay tuned for a Watermelon Face Spray that contains watermelon fruit extract, watermelon juice, watermelon seed oil, squalane, and hyaluronic acid. Taryn estimates that this should be in stores by June. And although this deliciously fruity spritzer sounds good enough to drink, reminder: it’s for external use only.
2. Watermelon Overnight Face Mask
If you’re a fan of the previously mentioned gel moisturizer, you’ll love the upcoming Watermelon Overnight Face Mask which sounds luxurious. Taryn explains that it’s “a super concentrated version of the gel moisturizer, with watermelon extract and watermelon seed oil… You put it on your face and it absorbs in really quickly and you sleep on it overnight and wash your face in the morning.”
3. Strawberry Body Scrub
Keeping in the fruit-flavored theme is the new sugar-based strawberry body scrub. In addition to sugar, this scrub contains actual strawberry seeds as an exfoliant.
4. Non-Aerosol Dry Shampoo
“We approved a dry shampoo that should be coming in 2020 sometime, that’s non aerosol, which is really exciting,” Taryn announced. I know I’m excited!
Which of these TJ’s beauty products will you be trying?
