Transformer Shelf: Shapechanging To Suit Your Needs

The storage and shelving needs of people evolve. Nowhere is this more evident than in Martin Sämmer's Transformer Shelf. Not only can it be modified to suit your needs, and the storage and shelving needs that you might have in the future, it can also be used as a good HDTV stand. It has so many uses, you'll be astonished! It also just looks good.

Martin Sämmer designed this beautiful object and says that it allows others to participate in the evolution its shape. When using the Transformer Shelf, you will be constantly changing and rearranging the different units to make a whole bunch of different shapes. The "closed" shape looks to be just the right size for a HDTV stand as well, which just makes this whole piece of furniture even more useful. From the black and white photos, it's unclear what kind of wood is used for it or if it is made out of wood. Even so, if it isn't available, a nice brown wood would really work well.

This type of furniture also works really well in small spaces. We can see this working well in small lofts and apartments. The "closed" shape also looks like some kind of computer icon. Once folded up, placing an HDTV on it might also be a great use of space. It's too low to serve as computer desk, but we could see it being used a coffee table.
