Mark Bennett's artwork, blueprints of fictional dwellings drawn from memory, makes us think about how going inside of tv homes has informed our own sense of home and of family. For anyone who has ever considered the configuration of Marcia, Jan and Cindy Brady's beds as they have contemplated their own kids' room, Bennett's blueprints are fun, nostalgic, and maybe a little melancholy.
Works by Mark Bennett are housed in the permanent collections of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art and the Museum of Modern Art, among others. His beautiful book, TV Sets: Fantasy Blueprints of Classic TV Homes, appears to be out of print but used copies are readily available online. Check it out to see how Bennett envisions tv homes from Leave It To Beaver, The Patty Duke Show, The Beverly Hillbillies, The Munsters, The Brady Bunch, Happy Days, The Jetsons, The Partridge Family and many more shows.
