Looking for something unique in which to schlep your laptop and papers to and from the office this summer? Check out the fun bags from Nest.
What makes these bags--as well as clothing and home decor items--even more worthwhile is that profits from these items beget microloans for women in third world countries to create or expand their arts or crafts businesses and create a sustainable future for themselves and their families. The goods that Nest sells are designed by both US-based and international female artisans.
More info and pics after the jump...
For example, the Mad Imports Latch bag that appears at the top of this post, is "handcrafted by artisans on the island of Madagascar and in Kenya, using renewable raffia fibers found there (and is pleasantly lined with cotton). Mad Imports is a fair trade company, enabling women (and thereby assisting families) to earn fair compensation for their talent and work."
The Latch bag retails for $50. The messenger bag on the right could hold a small laptop, perhaps if turned length-wise. It's the Postal bag, and retails for $70.
Another Mad Imports creation is the Wanderlust Handbag, plenty big enough for all your gadgets (except perhaps your laptop); dimensions aren't given. It's on sale for the dirt-cheap price of $30.
