We first mentioned this surge protector last year. What made it distinctive and useful is that it came with a remote that would switch off some of the outlets. Now, Belkin have announced an update to their Converse Surge. It now comes with a timer.

The new Conserve Surge with Timer comes with... You guessed it, a timer! Now why would this be important? Well it turns out that 50% of office power is used up by devices on standby mode. This would simply allow offices to turn them off at night, when no one is around. Belkin has designed this to be used in offices, but this doesn't stop you from trying these at home. Since they were first introduced in 2008, these Conserve Surge protectors have dropped in price. The one with the timer is available for $35.

The surge protector is designed to switch off devices on standby mode. There are two outlets which will remain always on, so you won't lose your work on your desktop when you leave files open. The surge protector cuts off power after a set period of time. It also comes with an on/off switch that lets you turn off those 6 sockets before the timer goes into action.

We aren't surprised at how much electricity can be wasted by gadgets and devices on standby mode. The best policy is just to disconnect them. However, this can become tedious and messy. Using something like this Belkin surge protector will save you money.
