When ’70s style came back in, it was only a matter of time before retailers whose design already leaned boho went full-on Laurel Canyon (you know, that aesthetic associated with the musicians who called the Los Angeles neighborhood home in the late ’60s and ’70s). Its hippie aesthetic is influenced by western Americana and desert motifs. And while we can’t all become Joni Mitchell this summer, we can channel some of her laidback, SoCal vibes.

If you want that effortless, vintage cool, Urban Outfitters is currently running a Summer Essentials sale, which includes tapestries, outdoor furniture, and even a hammock perfect for warm weather. (Also included: the sunglasses and straw bags you’ll personally need to complete the look.) The tapestries can work as wall hangings, headboards (see our house tour editor’s own tour for inspo), blankets, and even quick-drying beach towels. Similarly, the hammock can be hung outdoors or indoors for a quiet retreat (and moved around as weather changes.) Check out the entire summer sale here and see our ’70s folk rocker picks:

This 100 percent cotton tapestry can go anywhere and everywhere: Use it as a headboard or as a lightweight throw during the hot summer months. It can also go on the foot of your bed to add some color. It also comes in more monochromatic peach tones as well as bold reds.

Macramé Hammock, $179 $149

Who doesn’t need a hammock for summer reading and napping? Made from sturdy woven fabric, it’s meant to be enjoyed, not just admired. Toss some brightly colored pillows or blankets on it, or leave it as-is—the fringe already makes a bold statement on its own.

Take the plant parent obsession to the deserts of the American Southwest. While this is also cotton, the printed design doesn’t make it machine-washable and should be spot-cleaned instead. You can still use it as a throw, but might find to hang it as a tapestry. The watercolor hues are a perfect accent to more neutral color palettes.

If non-terry towels aren’t your thing, you don’t have to miss out on the trend. This cotton towel is woven with a geometric pattern on one side and has wicking terry weave on the other. Use it as your go-to beach towel or even as a bath towel. It includes a loop for easy hanging and drying. This paisley printed one is an under-$25 option that feels classic, not cutesy.

We continue to be amazed by the strides affordable outdoor furniture has made. This is chic enough that you can bring it inside in colder months as an accent chair in your bedroom or living room.
