Here’s my favorite new home gadget of 2017 so far. When Jonathan Frankel, the CEO and Founder of Nucleus, came to our offices here in NYC to show me his new home intercom system, I was immediately impressed. His inspiration was clear and simple, he wanted an affordable, easy to use home intercom to connect him to his three kids, whether he was downstairs or at the office. In the back of my mind I was thinking it would be a great way to keep in touch with my eighty-four year old mother who I only get to visit every two weeks and has been feeling lousy.

Much more than just a fancy way to FaceTime, I saw that Nucleus, like Nest and Eero, is really onto human centered home technology that is useful and integrates beautifully into the home. Continue on to see why I decided to feature Nucleus as my newest Daily Find.

2017 means that our families and loved ones are more modern and mobile than ever before, and this device makes it easier to feel close to your loved ones.

Connectivity for the modern family

It can be used in so many different ways, but I think what rang especially true for me during Jonathan’s visit was when he told me about how his wife and her sister each have a device in their respective kitchens. They cook at the same time, talk about their day, and simultaneously prepare meals for their family. The clincher? One lives in Pennsylvania, and the other lives in Israel — and it’s just like they are side by side. It’s clear that just like us, Nucleus loves company. It does best when paired with another device, but of course, like all the other smart home technology out there, it also has a mobile app. Instantly connect with your family at home when you’re on the road and you can feel like you’re at the dinner table with them.

Fits in with all homes

Because it connects so easily to wifi, Nucleus can go in any room of the house (think about in the kitchen, home office, baby’s room, etc.). It has a simple design, doesn’t draw too much attention, and comes in black or white. It can be easily wall-mounted (and comes with the proper hardware!) or can stand on its own. And the designers of Nucleus know how important cord control is for keeping the modern home tidy — it even comes with adhesive cord clips and cable wrap so you don’t have to worry about those annoying wires all over the place!

Perfect for Grandkids and Grandparents

Best of all, Nucleus is incredibly user-friendly — perfect for the young, the old, and the rest of us in between who may not be so tech-savvy. The set-up is shockingly simple and didn’t have me wanting to rip my hair out (which can sometimes be the case for me and techie gadgets). I have no qualms about my young daughter or my older mother hopping on a call to connect with one another without assistance. And that seamless connection is what Nucleus is all about.
