Versatile Fabric Recommendation To Rescue This Rocker?

Q: I rescued this rocker from the side of the road. "Free," the sign said. So I snatched it up! It's a perfect rocker for carpet, because it has a base on which the chair rocks (maybe it's called a glider then?) I want to reupholster it, but I'm having a tough time selecting fabric. I'd like to use it in my baby's room, but it will also become a chair in the living room-- replacing the chair that Kitty Kitty destroyed with her claws. (continued)

I'm hoping Kitty Kitty will stay off this chair since the legs are wooden and if she tries to scratch the body of the chair it will rock and scare her off. I need a fabric that will go from the nursery to the living room. I like bold patterns or bright colors, but I'm not sure how they'll work with such a classic style rocker. Can you savvy decorators help me???

Editor: I think it depends on the feel and color of your nursery and your living room. I recently (actually my sister did the lion's share of the work) recovered a chair in a decor weight fabric from Joel Dewberry's Ginseng collection which was extremely affordable and not as heavy as traditional upholstery fabric (making it easier to work with). Similarly, Amy Butler and Anna Maria Horner's decor weight fabric lines come to mind. Readers, what advice do you have for Adrienne?
