If you’re looking to give your bathroom a makeover for the new year, look no further than the trends that will dominate in 2022. From classic style revivals to the totally unique trends that’ll have you thinking outside the box, it’s a great year for bathroom renovations.

Rikki Fothergill, a designer at Big Bathroom Shop, has identified the leading interior trends that she expects to see in bathrooms next year, sharing tips on how you can incorporate the styles into your own space.

Below, three trends to consider if you want to take your bathroom to the next level in the year ahead.

Japandi style

“The Japandi trend has been extremely popular throughout 2021 and it isn’t going anywhere just yet,” says Fothergill. “This interior fusion of Japanese and Nordic style creates the perfect combination of form and function, using neutral hues and plenty of texture to create bright spaces. To achieve the look, focus on incorporating earthy tones, raw materials, low key lighting, minimal accessories, and a lot of natural elements,”

“This year, green has been a key color when it comes to living spaces like sitting rooms and dining rooms and in 2022, bathrooms will be no exception” she comments. “Green really can refresh a space whilst encouraging positive wellbeing and a sense of happiness; something we will all want when starting the new year. Whether you paint the walls in pastels or put up a new sage splashback- get creative with this versatile color,”

Wallpapered design

“As the new year approaches, it may feel as though we are taking a step back in time. Wallpapered bathrooms of the 1980s will be making a comeback and with the right choice, any room can be transformed,” explains Fothergill. “Whether you decide to create a tropical-themed powder room or choose a romantic floral pattern for your washroom, the possibilities are endless. This is another opportunity to get creative and bring some fun to a room. Vinyl wallpaper is best to use in a bathroom due to its resistance to moisture and humidity. If decorating a large space, go for a large-scale print or pattern. For a smaller space, choose a singular wall or the corner of a room to give the illusion of a bigger bathroom.”
