Walmart’s Newest Modern Home Collection Truly Shocked Us (In the Best Way)
On Friday, Walmart launched its new private label brand, MoDRN. The online-only line shows a dramatic departure from what we usually expect from the retailer. The mid-century-inspired line clearly owes a lot to the vintage trends of the past few years, as well as mass market retailers like West Elm and Target’s Project 62 and Opalhouse lines.
Walmart is far from the only retailer to offer budget-minded versions of classic MCM pieces. But MoDRN is the first line that feels like a fresh take on the trend, rather than simply copies of classic silhouettes and styles that we see everywhere. Walmart is also stressing the quality of materials used, including hardwood, marble, and performance upholstery. That translates to prices slightly higher than many shoppers may be expecting from Walmart. There is a range of prices, however, starting at $12 for glasses, all the way to a four-piece patio set for $1,700.
MoDRN launched with three looks: Retro Glam, Refined Industrial, and Scandinavian Minimal. Check out the full line, and see some of the pieces we’re eyeing below.
Retro Glam
Glam but still grown-up, there’s plenty of feminine pink in the Retro Glam collection. But it’s also grounded with darker colors and wood finishes, as well as bold, gold accents.
Scandinavian Minimal
Using muted tones and lighter wood finishes, the Scandinavian Minimal collection stays interesting thanks to the use of unexpected silhouettes, textures, and contrasts.
Refined Industrial
Similar to the Scandinavian collection, this one skips bold colors in favor of rich neutrals. Pops of color also give it an eclectic feel, and make the Industrial Modern collection feel very mix-and-match ready.
