The $40 Find at the Top of Every Couple’s Home Decor Registry

Getting married is a great chance to spruce up your abode with brand-new wares, so couples everywhere fill their registries with finds designed to upgrade their current inventory of dated decor.

We wanted to know exactly what interior decor items end up on those registries, so we turned to the experts at wedding registry site Zola to discover what things real couples are actually registering for. Since Zola allows soon-to-be spouses to choose from more than 60,000 items from over 600 brands, what do couples want when they could ask for almost anything?

Well, they want napkins.

The most-registered ware in the home decor category on Zola are the Chilewich Linen Napkins—at around $40 for a set of four.

It’s not a total surprise that couples are gravitating towards table linens with “tabletop” being the most popular category for wedding registries, overall. An upgrade from paper napkins, linen napkins are a beautiful and utilitarian gift that couples can use often, entertaining family and friends for dinner parties and holiday meals.

“The overall trend we are seeing is people are entertaining more and making their home much more habitable for them and their guests,” says Jennifer Spector, Director of Brand and wedding expert at Zola. “They are adding different personal touches that we didn’t see couples wanting five or 10 years ago. And, that has to do with social media. People are taking photos of their home and food and Instagramming at home. They have more access to information on being good hosts, too.”

Here are the top 10 most popular items in Zola’s “home decor” category…

When creating their wedding registry, couples are drawn to sophisticated yet sensible home decor like woven baskets and hurricane vases. They also are embracing natural textures and a neutral palette.

“Things are a little bit earthier and more tactile from napkins to artisan stoneware,” says Spector. “Things like that are resonating with millennial couples.”

Modern couples also are gravitating towards geometrics, crystals, marble, tribal prints, along with flower vases and pots for house plants.

“As we’ve seen across the board with millennials, there is a lot more interest in house plants, and especially succulents. It’s something we are seeing in wedding decor too,” says Spector. “Twenty-five percent of couples incorporate plants into their wedding day, and then bring them back into their home after their wedding.”

Photo frames also made it in the top 10 most-registered items, as married couples want to highlight their wedding day and memories as newlyweds.

“Post-wedding personalization is really important,” says Spector. “A lot of people get wedding photos framed or make custom wedding albums.”
